Privacy Policy
Interstitial Journal is built so that we — comun.ai — never see your journal. There's no account, no server we control, and no tracking. This page explains exactly what that means and how your data is handled.
Last updated: June 4, 2026 · Applies to Interstitial Journal for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
What we collect: nothing
We do not collect, store, or transmit your personal data to any server we operate. We have no backend, no analytics, no advertising SDKs, and no third-party trackers. We cannot read your entries, tags, moods, or how you use the app. In Apple's terms, our app privacy is Data Not Collected.
Where your data lives
Your entries are stored in your own iCloud (a private CloudKit database tied to your Apple ID) and on your devices. Your data counts against your iCloud storage, not ours. Syncing across your Apple devices is handled by Apple's iCloud and is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. iCloud is optional — the app works fully signed out, entirely on-device.
Encryption
Your journal is encrypted in transit and at rest. By default, Apple holds the keys — under that default setting Apple can access this iCloud data and may disclose it if legally required. For full end-to-end encryption — so not even Apple can read it — turn on Advanced Data Protection for iCloud in Settings. It's off by default.
Voice & dictation
If you dictate an entry, that uses your keyboard's built-in dictation — a system feature. The app receives only the resulting text. It does not record, store, or transmit audio, and it requests no microphone or Speech-recognition entitlement.
No tracking, no third parties
- No advertising identifier (IDFA) and no ad networks.
- No analytics, crash-reporting, or behavioral profiling.
- No third-party SDKs and no data sold or shared.
- We don't track you across other apps or websites.
Your data is yours
You own your data and can take it with you. Export everything to JSON (lossless) or Markdown at any time from within the app. To delete it, remove entries in the app or delete the app's data from your iCloud — because we hold nothing, there is nothing on our side to request, and nothing for us to delete. Deletions propagate across your devices through iCloud sync; Apple's iCloud retention and backup terms govern any residual copies.
A note on backups: if you enable Advanced Data Protection, losing access to your Apple account can mean permanently losing the iCloud data behind it. Keep an export as a backup.
Children's privacy
The app is not directed to children under 13, and it collects no personal data from anyone, including children — so it triggers no parental-consent (COPPA) obligations. It contains only the notes you write yourself, with no accounts, ads, or external content.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date above. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
